Reader - Writer - Editor - Artist
I read, write, edit, polish.
I work with words.
My earliest memories are of reading in the swing on my family’s side porch in rural Mississippi and, later, scouring the library in my home town for a new stack of books to check out and devour. Words.
After college, the new owners of my local weekly newspaper recruited me to work there, and after three years, I migrated to an entry-level job in public relations. From there, a job as writer-editor under a masterful wordsmith and dean of medical center public relations … and into public health. With a master’s degree from Tulane School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine, I worked with individuals at all governmental and organizational levels on every issue from AIDS to zoonosis.
In every position—from back shop flunky at the newspaper to communication executive and consultant—I am fortunate to have worked with message and audience to assure clear, concise, consistent communications. In those endeavors, I used four important tools: conception, creativity, craft, and connections.
